GMC & Chevrolet – iPhone – Can’t Watch Videos Solution

**If you have an older model vehicle you can still watch video – Check out this blog post to learn how.

The 2017 vehicles have been upgraded to include an HDMI port! This is exciting because you can now easily watch your iPhone and iPad movies on your entertainment system.  It’s great news that newer vehicles now have an HDMI connection.

First, get an Apple lightning to HDMI Adapter , and an HDMI to HDMI Cable ,   Plug the Lightning to HDMI Adapter into your phone, attach the HDMI to HDMI Cable, then plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI connection on your vehicle.  This route will cost you around $45 but it works great with current iPads and iPhones!

Technical notes:  You may wonder why you have to do all of this.  Here’s a quick explanation.  When the iPhone 5 was released in 2012, Apple introduced a new “Lightning” connector instead of the old 30-pin connector (see photos below).  Both the 30-pin connector and the Lightning connector support video output — but the output is different.  The newer “lightning” output is digital and the old “30-pin” output is analog.  In order to play digital movies GMC/Chevrolet you need to use an HDMI port in the vehicle.
